Why do we antisepticize wood?

Wood has many qualities, but also weaknesses, such as low resistance to fire, humidity, attack by insects, fungi and mold. But what happens when it is used to build wooden houses, in which the boards, beams and pillars are building materials whose resistance to fire, water and insects determines the entire house and even the lives of those inside it? In this case, special treatments are needed to increase its resistance.
